the pod people

so the pod is coming tomorrow. the pod is basically a giant locker. or maybe like the back of a uhaul if there were no wheels or cab on it. they drop it off on our street (our driveway is too short so we had to get a permit from somerville to park it in the street) and we pack it full of all of our stuff. then the pod company takes it away and stores it in california until we tell them where and when to drop it off at our new home (wherever that may turn out to be) to be unpacked.

this week was a LOT of packing, a lot of planning, and a little bit of panic. we've been organizing, cleaning out, fitting our stuff into variously-sized storage tubs, apartment-hunting from a distance (with a LOT of help from our friends joan and dan in cali who have kindly volunteered to go look at places for us), making last-minute reservations at hotels and national parks along the way, and juggling all manner of little tasks and errands that pop up when you are moving. all of this has also been complicated by the fact that i came down with a bad cold on tuesday, which is really slowing me down physically and mentally. and morale has suffered a bit due to the fact that it's been raining in boston for two weeks more or less non-stop. good thing chris can make me laugh even in the middle of all this; the more i lean toward freaking out, the more chill and funny he gets. what a system.

and all whining aside, the pod will be here tomorrow! we'll have the weekend to pack it, and on monday it (and we) head west. and when i can take a minute to put aside the anxiety and the to-do lists, i am just so excited to go see some amazing places in the US, to go live and work in the sunshine in a city i love, and to get to do it all with my best friend.

off to take some nyquil (or "nuke myself," as chris says) and get ready to face the day tomorrow! anyone with particular expertise in packing moving trucks, your advice would be very welcome!
