It's been a long time since our last post. In the intervening weeks, the biggest development related to our move is that Chris and I both gave our notice at work. My last day will be June 4 and Chris's will be a week later. We were thankful that the folks we work with were all supportive and that they were okay with our proposed end dates. Since then, my job has gotten much quieter as the department begins to phase me out, since it's difficult to give me any new projects unless they are sure to be relatively short-lived; by contrast, Chris's job has gotten much busier, as his company seems intent on getting lots of productivity out of him during his last few weeks! So in a surreal role reversal, I have actually gotten home before Chris a couple of times! I didn't know what to do with myself. :)
The other news from the last couple of weeks-- unfortunately, very sad news-- was the passing of Chris's adorable and funny cousin at far too young an age. There will be an absence at family gatherings that will never be filled. And on a purely selfish note, this fabulous girl was the only family we had in southern Cali and we were so looking forward to living just an hour or two away from her. We flew to Orange County last weekend for memorial services and were glad to be with her family during such a difficult time. Other than the fact that Chris's family is blessed with the gift of being able to laugh even when they're terribly sad, the ONLY other silver lining (albeit a very tiny one) was that, on our last day in California, we were able to take a drive down the coast with Chris's parents. We gave them the mini-tour of the 101 from Oceanside to Del Mar, took them to lunch in Carlsbad, showed them Powerhouse Park in Del Mar, and even squeezed in a lovely hike at Torrey Pines. It was lovely to be back and to show them some of the places we're so excited about. Of course, they also got to experience the joys of the red-eye flight back from the west coast later that night, but hopefully it wasn't enough to dissuade them from visiting again. :)
We are back in Massachusetts now and facing a forecast for a week of rain. But the end is in sight.
